Several subjects are offered at the CSSL adult general education centers. They are divided into two main programs: the Common Core Basic Education Program and the Diversified Basic Education Program.
Common Core Basic Education
This training program aligns with the ministerial choices associated with the education reform in Quebec. It includes the thirteen study programs of the first part of adult general education called Common Core Basic Education. These study programs consist of courses spread over three levels: literacy, pre-secondary, and the first cycle of secondary education.
At the heart of the curriculum, the training program aims to develop skills and is based on the needs of the adult, considered the main agent of their learning. To this end, it defines the resources necessary for the development of skills that will enable them to face various life situations and opens new perspectives on essential learning related to these situations.
Subjects offered in the Common Core Basic Education:
- French, Second language (Pre-secondary, Secondary I and II)
- Mathematics (Pre-secondary, Secondary I and II)
- English, Language Arts (Pre-secondary, Secondary I and II)
- Diversified Basic Education
Diversified Basic Education Program (DBE)
The DBE program for Secondary III, IV, and V is an adapted version for adults of the Quebec School Education Program, Secondary Education, Second Cycle. The general areas of education, cross-curricular competencies, and fields of learning are the same. However, in accordance with the orientations specific to adult education, the study programs are divided into courses. Additionally, a certain number of study programs are specific to adult education. Source: MELSe
