We believe that education is the key to success. It improves the lives of our children and strengthens our communities. The Centre de services scolaire du Littoral provides preschool, elementary, and secondary education services, as well as adult general education, in both French and English.
We serve seven (7) English-speaking villages and three (3) French-speaking villages, spanning from Kegaska to Blanc-Sablon, including Port-Menier (Anticosti Island), across a total area of 460 kilometers. The populations of these villages range between 100 and 1,200 inhabitants.
NATURE OF THE WORK
The job of a social worker more specifically involves preventing, promoting, screening and assessing the social functioning of students and groups of students who are experiencing or are likely to experience emotional, social, academic or family difficulties, as well as determining and implementing a social intervention plan, with the aim of supporting and restoring social functioning, fostering the optimal development of students in interaction with their environment and facilitating their academic progress.
CHARACTERISTIC FUNCTIONS
The social worker contributes to the identification and recognition of students experiencing social, family, personal or academic difficulties, with a view to prevention and intervention; assesses the social functioning of students, particularly those with mental or neuropsychological disorders attested to by a diagnosis or an evaluation carried out by an authorized professional resource, by studying and synthesizing information gathered in the student’s file, through direct observation, interviews, consultations and questionnaires, in order to determine the student’s functioning profile and social needs. He or she oversees the implementation of the social intervention plan, as part of the determination of an intervention plan to meet the student’s needs. Evaluate the social functioning of students, including those with mental health or neuropsychological disorders diagnosed by qualified professionals, through analysis of their files, direct observation, interviews, consultations, and questionnaires to determine their social needs.
He or she participates with the multidisciplinary team in the development, implementation and revision of the student’s individualized education plan, taking into account the student’s personal, family, school and social context, to help him or her overcome difficulties and maintain and develop motivation at school; he or she collaborates with other team members in the coordination of interventions, and in the evaluation of the achievement of objectives.
The counsellor conducts individual counselling sessions with the student and group sessions and follows up on the counselling sessions with the parents. He or she may refer the student or parents to resources appropriate to the situation and needs; he or she collaborates with representatives of partner organizations.
He or she advises and supports teachers and other school staff to better meet the needs of the student and his or her school environment, so that he or she can continue on the path to success.
He or she participates in the development, promotion and facilitation of screening, awareness and prevention programs on subjects related to the problems experienced by young people.
He or she advises management, prepares expert reports, assessments and progress reports, and makes appropriate recommendations to support decision-making.
He or she may be called upon to intervene to help defuse crisis or emergency situations and suggest possible solutions.
He or she prepares and updates files in accordance with the standards of the profession and the rules defined by the school board; he or she drafts progress notes or evaluation reports, at the end of the process and follow-up reports on his or her interventions.
REQUIREMENTS
- Membership in the Ordre professionnel des travailleurs sociaux et des thérapeutes conjugaux et familiaux du Québec.
- Working languages: French and English.
- Able to travel on the Lower North Shore territory.
SALARY AND WORKING CONDITIONS
- Annual salary between $53,876 and $95,479, based on the collective agreement.
- Isolation allowance ranging from $9,811 to $15,694.
- Reimbursement of relocation costs.
- Low-cost housing (furnished, heated, and lit).
- Three annual trips to your home base for you and your dependents.
